I recently saw an online article at Letting Agent Today that three rogue letting agencies
have been removed from the Property Ombudsman scheme as a result of unpaid awards to landlord clients.

The Property Ombudsman is a free impartial and independent service specifically set up in 1990 to settle disputes between consumers and property agents.

The three cases all involved monies due to landlords that had not been paid by the letting agents concerned.

In the first case, Kingsman Property Ltd in Essex were found by the Ombudsman to be liable for a total of £14,921.23 made up of withheld rent, deposit and additional costs for avoidable aggravation.

The second case concerned Kent firm Chambers Estates Kent Ltd. The landlord accused them of withholding three month’s rent paid by the tenant and the Ombudsman found them liable for the rent, some £2,376, plus a further £400 for connected aggravation and complaint handling failures.

The third complaint was against Assetgrove Prime and resulted in the award of £1,820 in unpaid rent plus £300 compensation.

All three agents failed to pay the awards and have subsequently been expelled from the Property Ombudsman scheme.
